Organic Farming, Forest Gardens, and Biodiversity

Ecology – naturally – from fields, forests, gardens and sea
Wednesday, 16th December

Humans are but one small part of a diverse natural world. We must understand our niche in this world.

In the future human activities must take place within the capacities of the natural world. We want to make this visible through different models, agricultural and forestry techniques and food habits that are healthier for you and the planet.

Pesticides, health and environment: Dialogos has since 2001 together with danish specialists in agronomi and occupational medicine and coallegues in Bolivia worked with farmers, agronomists and health professionals and in schools to prevent intoxications of humans and environment due to an increasing use of pesticides in agriculture in most developing countries. The principle has been Integrated Pest Management promoting the use of fewer pesticides, the use of less toxic pesticides and ecological alternatives. Our studies has
shown negative health effects on humans including children, and increasing environmental pollution due to pesticides. This has urged the ministries of health, education and agriculture to change their policies, and farmers to form ecological and IPM cooperatives, to produce healthier food. Due to our experiences WHO has included us in their group working on workers health
in agriculture making our experiences and materials accessible all over the world.
